I recall the slot cars of the sixties–my brother raced them.  I remember going to the slot car tracks back then, and they were always crowded on a Friday evening, or a Saturday.  These days,  progress has brought us digital slot cars.  Both are popular today, for different reasons.

Digital Slot Cars offer better maneuverability, better breaking systems, and the operator has more control over them, than their vintage ancestors.  Because they don’t need separate lanes, they can run on tracks with less space.  On the flip side, the digital models have more tech involved, and cost more.  And as you might guess, with more tech, stuff to learn.

Many slot car racers prefer the original slot cars.  Maybe it’s a little bit because of nostalgia, or maybe some racers prefer to feel they’re enjoying the sport as it was meant to be.  If this is your preference, you’ll need to allow two lanes, and you’ll need to allow more space than a digital track would take.  You can start with a smaller budget if you opt for the original slots, as well as less time spent learning the electronics.

It seems to come down to individual needs and preference.
